Intercultural competence of Spanish profs

Teaching a language is a social commitment. Not only do we help a student access code, we allow access to a new lifestyle, a new world. Teaching languages contributes to building a better world.

Today I had the opportunity to participate in the XII Meeting Practical Teacher ELE, organized by International House and Edinumen in the Cervantes Institute. We talked about intercultural competence in the language classroom (in the language classroom, to be more specific).

In case you're interested, here I leave my paper and some readings that explain a little more detail some ideas I have outlined today.

III Regional Meeting of the Faculty of ATAL

The fundamental structure of attention to immigrant students in Andalusia are temporary classrooms Linguistic Adaptation (APTA). Is a structure that includes a variety of ways of working that strikes me (attention reference in the classroom, segregated care, teaching of language for interpersonal communication, teaching for learning curriculum, adapting curriculum, accelerated learning, use of published materials, building materials themselves and posed ;...) the need to organize, periodically, to coordinate meetings and training. Today

Fuengirola has begun in the Third Regional Meeting of APTA teacher. For two days we discussed around four working groups: Inclusion, Participation, EL2 and Multilingualism and finally, ICT. In each of them and try to present good practice draw lessons from the work of teachers of APTA.

However, the conference has started before the Web and you can see in the Platform CEP Marbella-Coin . It was an interesting experience to participate in a common area of debate available to faculty, speaking in too many meetings "on teachers" without really giving the floor to identify issues for discussion, approaches or conclusions.

For my part, I have the chance to participate in the table of EL2 and Multilingualism. In the following presentation I leave some of the ideas that have been made in the forum this afternoon and tomorrow we will have the opportunity to discuss.
Finally, I would like to publicly thank the CEP de Marbella organizing the meeting. It is a good lesson in teamwork see here most of the mentors and advisers of the CEP, with Manolo - the director - Nicholas - the deputy - and Benjamin, the organizer of this whole mess, his head .

Oh, and if you want to be with us through Twitter, the hashtag is # ATAL2011 !

deepens: what if additional change everyday? Finland Centers

Yesterday took place in Granada Day that begins to program delves into Andalusia. This program aims to help develop basic skills of students in second and third cycle of primary education and compulsory secondary education through workshops, scientific and technological developments in their own schools and with the same teacher.

However, after also hides deepens, first, a clear desire to move methodological renewal of knowledge and know-how direct teaching toward inquiry-based learning and discovery in this line, the program aims to raise the level of training of students in areas such as Natural Sciences, Social Sciences or Technology. At the same time, the program also includes the desire for quality educational provision (though complementary) for high achievers. In short, is an ambitious project deepens arrived on tiptoe and without causing much excitement - and although the relationship between paying teachers for their work and results expected from the program is deeply unbalanced, so to speak politely.

Invited by the Directorate General of Participation and Educational Innovation, my participation in the Conference took the form of a Gym-presentation, ie, a gymkhana wrapped in a paper cover. The rationale is simple: does it make sense to give an academic paper on how to teach or how to teach science through inquiry and discovery when you're in Science Park of Granada? No, no sense: it is best to simply walk in the park teaching and learning through this large museum of science. So I invited the sisters and brothers to play in the park through the location of some tracks (which were nothing more than ten criteria for evaluating the curriculum of Secondary Education). In the next presentation you can see the approach of this gym-presentation:

yesterday really was a fun and exciting day. It was exciting because there was more than 130 teachers interested in working in a different way with their students, interested in promoting active and playful approach to the science, interested in spreading the importance of science in our society and our students. Are teachers who show the greatness of our profession, his dedication to public service and unquestionable social value: I can only say that I identify with her desire to improve and I fully sympathize with their demands.

And it was a fun day. The organization took the risk of the activity that poses: a gymkhana in the Science Park. Could be successful an activity that was to make a run to 130 teachers and elementary and secondary teachers in the corridors of the park looking for clues and taking pictures at full speed? The answer is yes. Thanks to the colleagues and colleagues the activity was very dynamic and rewarding. Teachers do not just want different ways of teaching and learning but they enjoy them!

Finally, congratulations to the organization of the Day (Manolo Vázquez and his team) and fellow Rafael Ramirez (Thales Mathematical Society), Diego Castilian (Eureka Group) and Carlos Durán ( Principia Center) for their wonderful experiences. Thanks to my friend David Alvarez ( @ balhisay ) for joining in the Gymkhana. Congratulations to Science Park for its facilities and its educational: you are a benchmark of quality that is proud to Andalusia. Health

Why Is My Newborn Have Flem?

About a year ago I wrote the following :
The next time I meet someone who tells me that will make a study visit to Finland I know what I will say, "Why do you want to go to Finland, if you can learn more at Jaca, Pamplona, in La Cala de Mijas, Albacete or Hospitalet? Lapland Do not look at what you have together you: look around and visit the centers are doing a good job, learn from them and apply them in your own center. So you can make your school a new Finland ".
CEIP After visiting the San Juan de la Peña decided that" Finland "is between us and the media does not do justice to the many schools offering quality education to highlight, continuously, the failure of our school system without ever referring to them as contrajemplos failure. We can not allow it and we have to say it out loud: There are many exemplary centers in our country and we need to know and value. So, from that visit I'm looking Centres Jaca Finland.

is, obviously a metaphor (is there to explain?): Finnish and we are not to be. To me, that Finland is a center that is committed to success, both academically and socially, its students through a central organization and a successful educational project. This usually involves a management team with a clear pedagogical framework and the will to put it into practice, a professional and volunteer faculty, a parent and a mother determined to participate in the education of their children and sponsored by the center to do and sometimes, an environment that envelops the educational activities of the center - although this in many cases not only not true but the environment is a threat to center or for students, so be a Centre Finland has two merits.

The Telefónica Foundation meeting last Saturday my friend Urban Lola and I talked about Finland. She said that Finland may have Teacher and I opted for the Centre Finland decided long ago to give credit educational snipers but what we need are schools - in the global sense of the word - that have and implement inclusive education project implemented a quality education, if only we have snipers, let the students actually to chance and fate is not usually very professional. So if I want to help and know of a Centre Finland, thank you reference.

Lastly, in a recent blog entry, Lola tells us that she is not Finnish . Neither do I. Needless to us. Actually to me, rather than Finland (where I've been in a couple of occasions), I like Ithaca. I'll leave my reasons. Ithaca

When you set your journey to Ithaca
must pray that the journey is long,
full of adventure, full of experiences.
not have to fear or to Laestrygonians or Cyclops,
or the angry Poseidon.
Never find these monsters in your path
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your spirit and your body.
The Lestrygonians and
Cyclops and the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter
if you do not carry them within your soul, if your soul
them up before you.
Pray that the road is long
to be many days of summer arrive
see you with joy, cheerfully,
ports you once ignored.
That you stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise:
pearl, coral, ebony, amber,
and pleasurable perfumes of a thousand kinds.
visit many
Egyptian cities to learn and learn from scholars.
Always keep in your soul the idea of Ithaca:
get there, here is your destiny.
But do not do in a hurry your way better
it lasts for years,
and you arrive, and old, to the small island as rich
've gained on the road.
Thou shalt not expect Ithaka to make you rich:
Ithaca has given you and a beautiful trip.
Without them you would never have party;
but has nothing else to offer.
And if you find her poor, Ithaka has not deceived you.
And being so old, so experience definitely
know and what they mean of Ithaca.
