This publication is the result of the Seminar "Conceitualismos do Sul / South" held at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo in April 2008, which was supported by FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo) and the Cultural Center of Spain in São Paulo and Buenos Aires. During the days he held the seminar was present, once again, among students, researchers, stakeholders and artists from various generations who filled the auditorium of the Museum, the belief in the possibility of transformation through art. This book has been conceived in that belief, and the need to conserve memory. Or, say in one sentence of the Argentine artist Edgardo Antonio Vigo: "Sowing the memory to grow not forgotten." The decades of 1960 and 1970 are being extensively revisited by history and art criticism in recent times. However, that does not involve a tremendous interest uniformity of approaches and perspectives, neither of the senses that are attributed to those experiences. In the last decade in different parts of Latin America and other countries like Spain and Eastern Europe are being developed to rescue from oblivion research stages, productions and artists that force us to rethink the opening and canonical narratives of global conceptualism still hegemonic.
the conceptual network of the South is an international platform for collective work, thinking and stance. It was founded in late 2007 by a group of researchers and artists concerned about the need to intervene politically in the neutralization process the critical potential of a set of 'conceptual practices' that took place in Latin America since the sixties. Today gathers around fifty active members, scattered in different countries of Latin America and Europe.
